Day 1 - Midget Tournament of Champions
The host team of the Peterborough Petes Midget Tournament of Champions is looking for a reset and success with a full line up and home ice advantage.
The Boston Pizza Midget Petes have had a challenging season. Coach Shawn Tucker worked tirelessly to draw players from the region to continue to build on the program developed by Robert Young last season.
Mike Davies of the Peterborough Examiner reported Coach Tucker to say,
"We put some heightened importance on this weekend to kind of start over," Tucker said. "It's an opportunity to take the rest of the season to start playing hockey to the level we all know we are able to achieve." Read the full Peterborough Examiner Article Here
Well the Petes did just that with a 3-1 win over CIH White to start the tournament and a 1-1 tie against the flying Soo Greyhounds in the afternoon game. Petes scoring came from 91 Chase Burden, 7 Sam Wrightly, 9 Matt Wilbee and 8 Travis Buxey, Assists to 93 Clay Coles and 15 Zach Tyte
The tournament significance was given a boost by the OHL's announcement this week of a 4 round U-18 Priority Selection Draft of Major Midget Players. The buildings are full of scouts making the games that much more important to players hoping to impress OHL scouts. Petes co-captains 33 Blake Curran and 93 Clay Coles shared their thoughts in the Examiner Article http://bit.ly/2jZmS1J
