The Boston Pizza Midget AAA Petes continued their steps to success with a strong showing in a 5-2 loss against the 1st place Central Ontario Wolves on Tuesday night and a 3-3 tie with the 2nd place Clairington Toros on Wednesday November 9.
The Petes got off to a great start with 35 Blake Curran stonewalling the dominance of the Toros on their home ice through the first period. The Petes disciplined defensive play created offensive opoutunities when 91 Chase Burden and 93 Clay Coles capitalized on turnovers to give the Petes a 2-0 lead heading into the last two minutes of the second period.
The Petes have experienced a breakdowns in the last two minutes in their second periods for the past month, leading to discouraging losses and this game was looking like it was heading down the same path.
As the Petes headed into the second period flood tied 2-2 the nervousness rested on the players but the message in the room from Coach Tucker was stay the course.
The Petes came back to the ice dominating the first half of the period leading to a goal by 9 Matt Wilbee - this was the confidence the team needed to hang on in the flurry of offensive zone attack by the Toros for the remainder of the third period where the Toros managed only one goal, dispite the two back to back late period penalities against the Petes.
33 Blake Curran was outstanding in net for the Petes, assist to 93 Clay Coles.
