Boston Pizza Bantam Icefest
The Evinrude Blades Minor Bantam AAA Petes had an excellent showing at the Boston Pizza Bantam Icefest. The Petes fought hard every game forcing 3 overtime periods and battling their way into the championship game on Sunday.


 In the first game of the tournament Thursday afternoon, the minor bantams were defeated by the Halton Hurricanes 4-2.  Both goals were scored by J.R. Avon with assists going to Evan Brault, Jack Falkner, Nathan Oickle and Tyler Savard.  Gavin Bradt played a solid game in goal.  The Petes rebounded from their early defeat to ring off five straight victories, two of which were in overtime.  In game 2, the minor bantams defeated the Eastern Ontario Wild 6-5 in overtime.  Dane Young and Falkner netted a pair each with singles going to Brault and Oickle. Assists went to Colby Turcott with 2, Avon with 2, Nathan Twohey, Ryan Cromie, Conner Lever and Savard.  Ayden Bulmer received the win in goal. In the third game, the minor bantams defeated the North Bay Trappers by a score of 2-1.  Goal scorers included Avon and Oickle with Gavin Bradt making some key saves in net to secure the win.  In the fourth game, the Petes came from behind to take down the Niagara North Stars 5-2.  Mason Tardiff, Cromie, Falkner, Brault and Young contributed for the goals with assists going to Matt Campbell and Young. Ayden Bulmer had another solid game in goal. Having reached the quarter-finals, the minor bantam Petes faced the Markham Majors in a stunning overtime game and came out on top 3-2.  Goals were scored by Falkner, Avon and Tardiff with assists to Clayton Shaughnessy, Tardiff and Avon. The semi-final game had the Petes playing the fifth ranked Ottawa Senators.  Again finding themselves trailing after two periods, the Petes clawed their way back to win 5-4.  Goals were scored by Young and Falkner netting a pair each with a single to Oickle.  Assists went to Jacob Verner, Falkner and Brault.  The championship game was against the fourth ranked Ottawa Valley Titans.  After trailing by three, the minor bantams once again tied the game and forced an overtime only to suffer a heartbreaking 4-3 loss. Goals in the final game were scored by Brault, Oickle and Falkner with assists by Falkner and Savard.  Ayden Bulmer had a great game in net and received the MVP for the Petes in the championship game.

The Evinrude Blades Minor Bantam AAA Petes return to regular season play next weekend facing the Ajax Pickering Raiders Saturday and Clarington Toros on Sunday.
