The Russelle Chiropractic/CHE AAA Atom Petes suffered a tough loss in
the bronze medal game of the AAA OMHA Championship this past weekend
hosted by the York Simcoe Express. After finishing 3rd
overall
in the ETA and a successful playoff run, the Petes earned their way
into the prestigious tournament consisting of the top 5 teams in the
OMHA.
The weekend started off on Friday morning with a 6-1 win over the Barrie Colts. Ben Bowen led the way with a hat trick while Ryder Perry, Camden Burke and Tyler Bolton recorded singles. Assists went to Bolton, Burke, Owen Fitzgerald, Quinn Jacobs and Holden Rutherford. Bowen was named player of the Game. Game 2 was a matchup with the SCTA Champion, the Halton Hurricanes, where the Petes came up short and were defeated 5-0. Lewis Brocklehurst was named Player of the Game.
Saturday was set for two more highly competitive games with the Hamilton Bulldogs and the York Simcoe Express. The Petes came out very strong with a hard fought 3-2 win over the eventual OMHA Gold medalist Bulldogs. Burke, Perry and Calum Couch tallied single goals with assists going to Nathan Gerelus (2) Burke and Bowen. This ended up to be Hamilton’s only loss of the tournament and they will go on to host the OHF tournament in 3 weeks. Masen Johnston was outstanding in the net. Burke was named Player of the Game.
In the Petes’ 4th game of the round robin, needing a tie or win for a gold medal game entry, the Petes came up just short with a 2-1 loss to last year’s OMHA champions York Simcoe Express. Tyler Bolton scored the lone goal with assists going to Burke and Bowen. Brocklehurst was named Player of the Game.
In the Bronze medal game another huge task of facing York Simcoe again, and the Petes came up short and suffered a 4-0 loss with an empty net. Burke was named Player of the Game. The team certainly accomplished many successes this season. The coaching staff would like to thank the PMHC, sponsors, the parent group and all the players for their level of commitment and their contributions to placing as a top 4 team in the AAA category of the OMHA.
