Statement From: Michael Oke - General Manager – OHL Peterborough Petes
The Peterborough Petes are extremely proud of our partnership with the Peterborough Minor AAA Petes and the Peterborough Minor Hockey Council (PMHC). A clear example of this strong partnership is demonstrated through the OHL Petes support of Petes AAA U18 hockey club. We utilize the Petes AAA U18 program as our primary affiliate for drafted players. Since the inception of this partnership in 2019, we have had many players play with the Petes U18 hockey club before making the jump to play full time with the Petes in the Ontario Hockey League.
The Minor Petes have an excellent track record to developing players both on and off the ice, with many players advancing to play Junior, College/University, and Professionally upon completion of their minor hockey eligibility.
When it comes to hosting major tournaments, the Minor Petes are well known and high regarded for organizing events, that provide memorable experiences for players, coaches and parents including:
Pat Larock Memorial Tournament – U11 / U12
Boston Pizza Icefest – U13 / U14 / U15
Steve Richey Tournament of Champions – U16 / U18
These events have always received a tremendous amount of support not only from the business community through sponsorships and donations, but also from large number fans who come out to support the event through their attendance at games.
During these specific events, we provide dressing room tours, hold open practices for participants to attend, host player Meet & Greets, and provide discounted tickets to OHL games, but also throughout the year through partnerships with other programs.
The Steve Richey Tournament of Champions, held in mid January, is considered one of the premiere events leading up to the OHL U16 Priority Selection Draft and the OHL U18 Draft. This tournament attracts a large contingent of not only OHL General Managers & OHL Scouts but also NHL scouts, who can attest first hand to the high level hospitality provided to them during their time in Peterborough.
