U16 & U18 Programs

The U16 and U18 Jr. AAA Petes have established themselves as a premier development program, consistently preparing players for success at the next level. The U18s have a strong affiliation with the OHL’s Peterborough Petes is a key factor in their success, providing players unparalleled exposure to major junior hockey. Since 1968, our program has seen 224 players drafted into the OHL with 23 in the past two seasons.

This relationship allows athletes to benefit from mentorship opportunities, shared resources and insight into the expectations of elite-level hockey. Many Jr. AAA Petes alumni have successfully transitioned to the OHL, a testament to the program’s ability to develop high-caliber talent.

Additionally, the continued success of the Steve Richey Tournament of Champions has solidified Peterborough’s reputation as a hub for elite hockey. The event is a showcase tournament for AAA-level U16 and U18 players. It attracts several hockey scouts, giving players an opportunity to make a good impression and potentially be drafted into the Ontario Hockey League.

Both teams have dedicated dressing rooms and dedicated video facilities, with the U16 team at the Healthy Planet Arena and the U18s at the Peterborough Memorial Centre. The dressing rooms provide the teams with a consistent and professional space to prepare for games and practices.

The video rooms allow game footage analysis and strategy development and provide detailed breakdowns of plays. These help athletes improve their decision-making, positioning, and overall hockey IQ. They also improve team communication and promote a professional learning environment that ultimately leads to better performance on the ice.
