HISTORY &TRADITION
Peterborough and Peterborough County, including Hiawatha First Nation and Curve Lake First Nation, have a rich and deep hockey history with their strong minor hockey systems, from house league to the Ontario Hockey League’s (OHL) Peterborough Petes.
Higher-skilled minor hockey players playing on Minor Petes “AAA” teams have proudly worn the Petes jersey while travelling and playing within the OMHA AAA league and “AAA” tournaments across Ontario and the United States.
Since its inception, the Peterborough minor hockey system has produced several National Hockey League players, including Red Sullivan, Bob Gainey, Steve Larmer, Joey Johnston, Doug Crossman, Herb Raglan, Kerry Huffman, Doug Evans, John Druce, Steve Webb, Dean Morton, Cory Stillman, Corey Perry, Mike Fisher, Brian Young, Zac Bierk, Cody Ceci, Riley Stillman, Vince Dunn, Mitchell Stephens, Owen Tippett and Barrett Hayton, to name a few.
These names reinforce the strength and impact of our developmental programs and coaches to help foster high-quality talent through the Jr. AAA Petes.
Since 1968, 224 players have been drafted into the OHL with 23 in the past two seasons.
The organization has a strong board and volunteers who run three annual tournaments. It is financially stable, runs raffle and 5050 draws, and has state-of-the-art facilities, accommodations and accessibility.
