AAA Minor Petes Hand Out Year-End Awards

The Peterborough Minor Hockey Council celebrated the end of the 2016/2017 hockey season with their annual awards banquet at the Kinsmen Centre on Wednesday night.

Master of Ceremonies Pete Dalliday, co-host of "100.5 FM Fresh Mornings with Pete and Catherine", kicked off the evening by interviewing Minor Petes alumni players Cedric Ralph and Quinn Hanna of the OHL Guelph Storm, and Matt McNamara and Logan DeNoble of the OHL Petes. Their message to the young players was to have fun, enjoy your time with your teammates, and work hard.



Award Winners Included:

Goaltender’s Award presented annually to the goaltending duo with the best goals-against average - Will Craig and Will Cranley.

The Chris Fee Award is presented annually in memory of Chris Fee presented annually to a Major Atom player who is voted by his teammates to be a player who plays the game of hockey with passion, skill and is well respected and liked by his teammates - Sam Corcoran

The Wally Beavis Award is presented annually in memory of Mr. Wally Beavis and is presented to a Major Peewee player who has demonstrated sportsmanship, strong team play, and places the interests of their team and teammates ahead of himself - Cole Pottle 

The Shane Norris Award is presented annually in memory of Shane Norris to a Major Bantam player who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in scholastic and sportsmanship. The winner of this award is presented with a cheque for $300.00. - Alex Ferrier

The John Leahy Award is presented annually in memory of John Leahy to a player on the Midget team, who has demonstrated great dedication, leadership and sportsmanship - Clay Coles

The James Johnston Memorial Award is an organization-wide award that was created in memory James Johnston. This award is presented annually to a minor Petes player who exemplifies James Johnston’s character and skill. The nominees were Declan Ready and Jacob McMahon (Novice); Nathan Gerelus (Minor Atom); Owen Hickey (Atom); Morgan Brault (Minor Peewee); Chase DeNoble (Peewee); JR Avon (Minor Bantam); Tyler Deline (Bantam); Elijah Brahaney (Minor Midget); Blake Curran (Midget).

James Johnston Memorial Award winner - Tyler Deline

 

The David James Award was created in memory of David James and is presented annually to a minor Petes player who exemplifies David James’ character. The nominees were Morgan Hyndman and Lewis Chatten (Novice); Masen Johnston (Minor Atom); Brayden D’Innocenzo (Atom); Jacob Crough (Minor Peewee); Will Corcoran (Peewee); Tyler Savard (Minor Bantam); Kal Watson (Bantam); Jack Sutherland (Minor Midget); Clay Coles (Midget).

David James Memorial Award winner - Jack Sutherland  

 

The Vali Ali Manager of the Year Award is presented annually to a team manager for dedicating their time and energy, who works hard behind the scenes in making sure that a team is successful both on and off the ice. – Nancy Sharpe

Trainer of the Year Award presented annually to the team Trainer who has demonstrated outstanding dedication and service in the areas of safety and risk management as well as a commitment to the values of safety and enjoyment - Bryan Hignett.  

Technical Coach of the Year Award presented annually to a head coach who has demonstrated a high level of coaching ability with a focus on technical skills and a proven commitment and dedication to his players both on and off the ice. – Mike Martone

Coach of the Year Award presented annually to a head coach who is admired for dedicating his time and energy, works hard making sure that the team's success is both on and off the ice, leads by example and gives effort above and beyond what is necessary. – Rob Fitzgerald

The President’s Award is presented annually to honor a volunteer in the Peterborough Minor Hockey Council who has provided many hours of dedicated Service to the Council. – Wendy Turcotte
